Poggy Fishing | A Reel Fishing Experience [VORP]

Skill-Based Fishing System with 32 Species, 25+ Water Zones, Two Rod Playstyles & Full NUI for RedM

Not a progress bar. Not a timer. Poggy Fishing is a five-phase fishing system where every fish, zone, bait, and rod combination plays differently. Two rod types offer completely separate playstyles β€” one accessible, one demanding. Fish have time-of-day schedules, zone exclusivity, randomized weights, and difficulty scaling tied to their value. Includes a companion Fishing Journal with an interactive map, discovery tracking, personal bests, and species lore. Everything is configurable.

Features

  • Five-Phase Fishing Loop β€” Equip rod β†’ cast line β†’ attract a bite β†’ fight the fish β†’ catch & loot. Every phase has real mechanics β€” no auto-catches, no idle waiting.
  • Two Rods, Two Playstyles β€” The Regular Rod uses an interest/tension tug minigame to hook the fish, then progressive skillchecks to reel it in. The Pro Rod skips the tug phase entirely and throws you into a real-time direction pull fight alongside harder skillchecks. Same waters, completely different experiences.
  • Pro Rod Direction Pull β€” Camera controls are disabled. The fish yanks left, right, or forward β€” direction changes every 3–6 seconds. Counter it with your mouse or the line snaps. Correct pull = 88% less drain. Wrong pull = tension climbs at 20/sec. Random forward jerks keep you honest.
  • 32 Fish Species Across 5 Difficulty Tiers β€” Easy, Medium, Hard, Expert, and Legendary. Difficulty scales with sale price. Each fish has a unique weight range (randomized per catch), size class, ped model, and optional time-of-day availability window.
  • Time-of-Day Schedules β€” Bullhead Catfish are nocturnal (8PM–6AM). Chain Pickerel feed mornings only (5AM–12PM). Legendary Muskie appear in a narrow dawn twilight (4AM–7AM). Fish outside their hours simply won’t bite.
  • 25+ Real Water Zones β€” Mapped to RDR2’s native water-zone hashes. Lakes, rivers, swamps, creeks, and ponds β€” each with a curated species list. Trophy fish are zone-exclusive. Flat Iron Lake for Sturgeon and Muskie. Bayou Nwa for Gar and Catfish. Mountain lakes for Trout and Salmon.
  • 6 Baits & Lures β€” Spinner (general), Worm, Cricket, Bread, Crawdad, and the Legendary Dragon Fly Lure. Each targets specific species, shifts size weights, and has its own consume-on-escape chance. No-bait fishing is possible but significantly harder, with a risk/reward tension bonus mechanic.
  • Loot Drops on Every Catch β€” Pearls (White, Red, Blue, Gold, Black), Golden Nuggets, Uncut Diamonds, bonus bait, and the ultra-rare Legendary Dragon Fly Lure (0.2%). Pro Rod rolls the loot table twice per catch.
  • Season System β€” On server start, 80% of fish are randomly marked β€œin season.” Out-of-season fish can’t be caught. Resets every restart or on command. Keeps the meta shifting.
  • Progressive Skillchecks β€” 3 to 12 rounds depending on tier. Speed, shake intensity, and great-hit windows all scale. Consecutive misses escalate difficulty further. Bait bonuses reduce the effective tier by 1–2 levels.
  • Interest & Tension Mechanic β€” During the bite phase (Regular Rod), press E to tug the line. Interest (blue bar) builds toward a hook. Tension (red bar) builds toward a snap. Both decay when idle. Every fish tier scales the rates differently β€” Legendary fish have 2.5Γ— interest decay and 0.3Γ— tension decay.
  • Multiplayer Sync β€” Splash effects, cast animations, and fish-in-hands displays are visible to all nearby players. Fishing isn’t a solo bubble.
  • 4 Ambient Music Tracks β€” Cycle through Peaceful Waters, Serene Lakes, Circle of Stones, and Mountain Banjo with the C key. Or turn it off entirely.
  • Full SFX Suite β€” 16 sound effects covering every action: cast, splash, bite, tug, reel, equip, stow, escape, line snap, catch, bait select, fish splash, keep, and throw back. Web Audio API playback with pitch variation.
  • Keep or Throw Back β€” After catching a fish, choose to keep it or release it.
  • NUI Fishing HUD β€” Zone label, available fish grid (undiscovered fish show as β€œ?”), interest/tension bars, progress bar, pull direction meter, reel animation overlay, bait indicator, music display, and contextual control hints β€” all in one clean interface.

Fishing Journal (Included Companion Resource)

The Poggy Fishing Journal is a separate resource included with purchase. Use the journal item from your inventory to open a full-screen interactive fishing encyclopedia.

  • Interactive Map β€” Pan and zoom across a full RDR2 map. Water bodies are pinned and color-coded by type (lake, river, swamp, creek, pond, ocean). Click any pin to see its fish population and season status.
  • Discovery System β€” Fish you haven’t caught yet appear as β€œ?” in both the journal and the fishing HUD. Catch them to unlock their entry. Progress ring tracks your completion percentage.
  • 4 Journal Tabs β€” Journal (season status, active fish right now), Discoveries (species grid with unlock progress), Records (total catches, unique species, cumulative weight), Personal Bests (heaviest catch per species with dates).
  • Fish Lore Sidebar β€” Click any discovered fish to see its full profile: weight range, sale price, active hours, known locations, habitat description, and behavior notes.
  • Discovery & Record Toasts β€” On-screen notifications when you discover a new species or set a personal best weight. Appear even with the journal closed.
  • Per-Character Persistence β€” All discoveries, catch counts, weight records, and dates are stored per character in MySQL.
  • Season Awareness β€” Reads live season data from the fishing system. The journal always reflects what’s currently catchable.
  • 17 Species Audio Files β€” Voice-over identification clips for each fish family.
