The crossbow is made 100% using meta files. It is an addon weapon and not a script-based implementation.

    The crossbow is a first-of-its-kind experimental project where the entire projectile behavior and physics are created using meta files, replicating the original GTA V mechanics.
  • :loud_sound: Custom Sound Effects:
    The crossbow includes an addon sound in .awc format.
  • :dart: Custom Animations:
    • Holding animation: Repurposed from the rocket launcher.
    • Reload animation: Uses the rocket launcher reload animation.
  • :musical_note: Sound Implementation:
    Shooting sound effects are integrated using .dat151.rel and .dat54.rel files.
  • :paintbrush: Unique Models:
    Fully custom models designed specifically for this crossbow .
  • :rocket: Projectile Configuration:
    • Arrow trajectory is configured through projectile.meta.
    • Physics and flight path are entirely managed via meta files.
  • :zap: Ricochet Ability:
    Ricochet mechanics are enabled using flags in projectile.meta.
  • :scroll: LUA54 Integration:
    • Weapon name registration
    • Custom crossbow sound registration

To-Do List:

  • :pushpin: Fix Bolt Impact Behavior:
    Currently, the bolt does not stick to targets upon hitting or killing. This is due to limitations in GTAs native mechanics.
    • Plan:
      If this cannot be resolved within meta files, a script-based solution will be implemented in the near future.

Changelog: 2025-08-21

  • Changed animations for holding the crossbow
  • Changed shot projection; the bolt flies more reliably and doesn’t spin at longer distances
  • Added a collimator - COMPONENT_AT_SCOPE_SMALL
  • Removed the arrow during reloading due to the GTA’s poor reload projection animation when a scope is attached
  • Changed the crossbow rig to fit the scope mount
  • Adjusted animations for different peds
  • Adjusted the FOV to properly view the collimator
  • Added a first-person perspective in scope mode
  • Adjusted flight projections in first-person scope mode
