XAudio_7.dll/xaudio_9.dll Crash (Voice Related)

Nortro and I have found a fix for those who use a USB headset and who are experiencing the xaudio2_9.dll issue.

  • If all goes to plan, this will take roughly 5-10 minutes.
  • It does require the use of third-party software
  • Disclaimer Download at your own risk, for myself and others who have tried this method the download has been fine. I myself have scanned it will BullGuard and Malwarebytes, however I’ll still keep that warning there.
  1. Go to (https://www.vb-audio.com/Voicemeeter/index.htm) and scroll down to the .exe download button
  2. Install the software and run the .exe . Once you’ve ran the .exe, you will need to restart your pc.
  3. Go to (https://www.vb-audio.com/Cable/index.htm) and download the .zip folder. I’d recommend unpacking this using WinRar into a new folder.
  4. Run the setup.exe that’s provided within the folder you extracted it to
  5. Once complete, restart your PC
  6. Open the Voicemeeter software.
  7. Click on the “A1” button located at the far right of the panel under Hardware out. Within here, select your headset ( Select the WDM that has your headset name after it. (E.g WDM: Headset Earphone (CORSAIR Void Pro RGB) . Once completed, the panel should look like this (https://imgur.com/a/4rMNsJv) – For myself I run a corsair headset so the name will show as Corsair, for yourself it will show as your headsets name.
  8. Also. Ensure that you have “VoiceMeeter Input(VB-Audio VoiceMeeter V…” as your selected device within windows (https://imgur.com/a/q3mVt9q)
  9. Launch FiveM
  10. Join your selected server
  11. Click ESC. > Settings > Scroll to Voice Chat > Output Device > Change it to VoiceMeeter Input (VB-Audio…) (https://imgur.com/a/DG0VbnJ)

Ensure that your settings meet what is posted in the imgur above. And you should be good. Enjoy! Feel free to reply if you’re having any issues.

Are you perhaps able to figure out settings in VAC/VoiceMeeter that will trigger this crash on a normal stereo output device?

Mate its not related about Voicemeter, Its just in general. Whoever connects to the server they get these kind of crashes. Now im not a fan of Voicemeter which is why I wont use it because it causes a lot of problems to me. It seems like you guys are just trying to avoid the problem.

Yes, I’m aware. But we don’t have any of these USB headsets, and the last one I bought to reproduce this did not cause the issue at all.

No, quite the opposite: you should find a set of settings that will cause the problem. We can’t fix it without being able to cause it, since it’s crashing inside Windows code, to which we don’t have the source code, and since the last time such a headset was bought was 100% useless, we’re trying to find some information to actually cause it without needing a weird surround headset.

I have talked to a bucnh of people I know who has had this problem and it seems it has something mainly to do with corsair headsets, I myself have a corsair Void and when I join the server we all play only when more then one person talkes it seems to crash the game. It may have something to do with the server owner adding some sort of directional surround sound when people speak.(person on your left you hear them out that ear and so forth. It only happens when hearing more then one person speak. Most people are saying to change headsets/buy a new one but that is extreme for one game over something that could be fixed with a patch. you said you bough a headset to try and cause the error again but maybe try finding a corsair void wireless as I seem to get the issue. If you can’t recreate it then I recomend joining Highlife server as to rule out it’s not the script/mod the owner put in. Let me know if you need any further info.

I too have spent a night troubleshooting with a friend. We actually ended up getting voicemeter working with his corsair headset, only to produce a new error i’ve yet to see:

This is happening exactly the same as the xaudio_9.dll crash, he can hear VOIP around him for maybe 30 seconds, and then I’ll reply to something and he’ll crash out as soon as I start talking.

I am wondering if it has something to do with the corsair software, he said his headset sounded horrible once we were using voicemeter, as I guess the software does a ton of post processing for the headset.
