I’m just a regular RedM player — name’s ToxicMaggot. I play on a server that uses Salty Chat version 3.1.2, and we usually have around 160–180 players online.
We’ve been running into a frustrating issue when lots of players are in the same area — like during big events or scenes. Some people can hear each other, others can’t hear certain players at all, even if they’re right next to them. We call it “the bubble.” The only temporary fix is walking away and coming back, which really breaks immersion and ruins the RP experience.
I reached out to Salty Chat about it, and they replied with this:
“Hi, RedM currently only allows 32 players in a scope for a single client. As Nomatt already said, your server should use something like this: FX-Channel”
So now I’m reaching out here to ask: is there any chance that the player scope limit on RedM could be increased — even gradually — to support larger scenes? Something like 100 or even 200 players would make a massive difference for large servers and would really improve the quality of roleplay during big events.
Thanks a lot for all the work you do, and fingers crossed something like this can be considered in the future!
As you know, there has been a serious problem with RedM for a long time: OneSync’s 32-player channel limit.
Many servers can now reach 200–300 players, so this limitation has a significant impact on both the gaming experience and server performance.
We have developed our own system to address this issue: FX-Channel
This system aims to alleviate the impact of the limitation by providing channel management through routing buckets. Unfortunately, this solution is only a temporary ‘patch’. This problem cannot be solved by the community alone; the real solution will require an update to RedM’s own system.
RedM is no longer the small-scale server platform it once was. Its developer teams and player community deserve much higher capacities and more powerful infrastructure. That’s why we are expecting a concrete step from the RedM team in the near future.
We are doing our best, but we hope that a permanent solution will be presented officially as soon as possible. This problem is not just ours; it affects the whole community.
Thank you to everyone who tested and supported the FX-Channel script.
This would be so great to have! We have events and such on the server where there is absolutely more than 32 people in an area; and it’s always unfortunate some people are invisible, their horses are invisible or they can’t see the rest of the group around.
At the moment we are around 230 - 280 people in the server where I play and the developers have come up with the idea of putting more instances for Saint Denis, it is frustrating also because if in an instance there are more than 32 people in the most populated cities there are still problems and even for carrying out combat or clash actions etc… there are problems
Some progress was made at the start of January to resolve three different corruption issues (and some other bugs) and some extra investigation is being done on another corruption issue tied to changing player models with >32 indexes. Hopefully should have a fix for that very soon, then its continued investigation on another memory corruption issue occurring at 33 players although some work on some other improvements for RedM has led to a potential discovery relating to it which I will be investigating much further in the coming weeks.
Appreciate the updates - I think I speak for the entire RedM community when I say we are BEYOND excited for this to function on the platform. Its been a long 5 years of culling issues, and with Rockstar investing in cfx - I would of thought this would happen a lot sooner/be actively worked on by more people. Good work though.
