Poll/Question: What city (map) do you think has the best potential?

Hi everybody. I want to take a break from scripting and start a project building an addon map of a city. My ambition is to integrate it seamlessly with GTA 5’s art style, both from a graphical point of view, as well as the way in which everything is modelled (terrain, buildings, props, etc). The first step is choosing a location. I was thinking about something lore-friendly, based on a real-life place in North or South America (preferably North I guess). I would like the location to be something that has not been done before and not boring, meaning it should have some recognizable/iconic landmarks, buildings, streets and/or diverse terrain and landscapes, so it’s not just flat, or full of skyscrapers, so I compiled a little list (image attached) with some starting ideas, but I’m not limited to those in the table.

Let me know what you think, and again the location is not limited to the ones on the list. Next steps would be sketching a layout, gathering reference photos, then the modeling part - greyboxing, roads, terrain, buildings, other finishing details. I have a few people that can work on it and we have done some smaller maps in the past so we’re no strangers to the workflow and 3D modelling

Would love to hear your thoughts/opinions.

Hey there!

Love the idea - Surprised we’re not seeing more traction here…

Curious about limits. Size limits, polygon limits, quality limits, etc…

I love the idea of honolulu, hawaii since it’s naturally an island and you can model land masses.

Of course, me being biased, I believe that if you’re going to have a separate island and lore friendly, it should come with an airport.

Here’s some ideas and details for places that may be cool to toss in:
Aspen, Colorado: Rocky lush snowy hills that prove to be harsh during the winter offering beautiful landscapes, and in concentrated areas, small villages, towns, and populuses. Aspen airport is also surrounded by a mountain range. Something for the more natural approach!

Anchorage, Alaska: Something that’s unique to GTA since there’s not many naturally snowy mountain landscapes in GTA V. It offers a slightly rolling hill landscape surrounded by tall cascading mountain ranges in the background.

San Francisco, California: Already listed but I agree!

Farfetched: Los angeles Replacement: Now that mapping is almost limitless, this could be a good opportunity to recreate the entire map to a more accurate and detailed version of los angeles giving more love to the details such as large beach landscapes and, diverse innercity areas, known-gang affiliated territories, and SOME mountainous terrain (malibu, hollywood, etc).

[Small…ish?] San Catalina Island: A simple landscape with a few small towns, rolling hills, and huge beautiful landscape. Contains means for travel with land and sea, and the physical location, island shape, and close proximity to ‘los santos’ makes it a perfect lore-friendly, and geographically accurate location to the original GTA 5 map. (Should probably be reduced in size to not overshadow the size of the original map!)

Honorable mentions / locations:

  • Grand Canyon
  • Niagra falls
  • Boston, Massachusetts

If you’re looking for someone with experience in airport importing into GTA, a player on discord named #Lutton3335 may be able to help! I’d consider a collab!

Hopefully this helps!
