Important parts

What is the issue you’re having?
PC Crash randomly after launching FiveM. I do not need to load into a server for this to happen. It will occur within a few seconds, or I might get an hour or more of actually being connected to a server before it crashes. This is directly to black screen, power off and then the system will reboot.

What are you trying to do?
Play the game?

What have you tried already to fix the issue?
Reinstalled NVIDIA Driver. Installed all other required system drivers. Reinstalled FiveM. Checked Windows is up to date.

Error screenshot (if any): N/A

What did you do to get this issue? Nothing, knowingly at least. This is a fresh install of Windows 10 as I recently upgraded my boot drive SSD.

What server did you get this issue on? Be specific and name some, ‘all of them’ by itself isn’t useful!
5RP.Org Dev Server is the only one I’ve connected to, but as stated above, I don’t need to have connected to a server for this crash to happen.

Additional comments

Explanation I gave on the FiveM Discord

When opening FiveM, anywhere from a few seconds to an hour or so after doing so, my PC will crash - this is to black screen (i.e. lost power), and then reboot. I’ve done various stress/stability tests (for example using HeavyLoad) and everything is fine. I don’t necessarily need to have got to the point of connecting to a server (i.e. opening GTA) for this to happen. This is a fresh install of Windows (as of yesterday), and all my drivers are installed and current (including, out of an abundance of caution, doing a clean install for my NVIDIA drivers) due to the purchase of a new SSD. FiveM is installed to (and hence running from) a different drive to where GTA is installed (although this is just the default location that FiveM installs itself to).

The fixes I’ve tried already were all done in tandem, and I’ve not yet tried to reproduce the issue, given it’s nature of crash to black screen that isn’t healthy for any computer. Since I have reinstalled FiveM, I don’t currently have any logfiles or anything to provide (as I assume the uninstall process would have removed the old files).

This sounds like a hardware issue, I’d suspect the PSU’s overcurrent protection here, this was a common issue when the RTX 30 series launched as cards would often briefly use a lot more power than usual. It could be worth setting a lower power limit for the GPU using a tool like MSI Afterburner and seeing if that resolves it.

I remember the same issue, and I suspected this also, but from my testing it appears to be isolated to FiveM. I am using a Corsair RM850x so should cope with the combined power draw of my system, even with those spikes. In fact on my old Windows install I had used Aorus Engine (Gigabyte’s answer to Afterburner) to set a higher power limit. EDIT: Just thought I’d add in, for the utmost clarity, that just the FiveM application alone is enough to cause this, I don’t need to have connected to a server, or opened GTA at all.

With all other components the same, I have been using FiveM fine for several months prior to the upgrade. I change the SSD for my boot drive, and now I get this, I should note here that previously I had FiveM installed to a different drive (the same drive as GTA V), but the FiveM installer no longer seems to offer the option to install elsewhere.

I opened GTA V to Story Mode yesterday and left my PC idling the game for almost 2 hours, I’ve run R6 Siege and played several matches. I’ve used HeavyLoad to stress CPU, GPU and RAM simultaneously also. None of these cause a crash.

A user-mode program with no hardware interaction can not cause this behavior on its own.

In this case, in fact, I’ve had similar behavior where only one particular UE4-based game - a fairly lightweight one, at that, ‘It Takes Two’ - led to a system shutdown right on startup, and no other game or workload did. Fixed when replacing PSU (an older ‘1000W’ Seasonic, but still couldn’t cope with this) with a newer model released after the RTX 30 series.

Sorry, I didn’t mean to be misunderstood, I completely understand and acknowledge what you’re saying, I was just highlighting exactly how it is affecting me. With all being said, and not trying to tempt fate, I’ve reinstalled by NVIDIA drivers (in fact I did a clean install of the old version, then updated as a release became available in GeForce Experience a few hours after I posted this) as well as install a few optional drivers that Windows Update found, and I seem to have mitigated the crashing situation, at least for now.

FWIW, my PSU was upgraded at the same time as purchasing this 3070 Ti and I made sure to choose something that has overhead. But again, I acknowledge that it is indeed exactly how OCP might behave should that be the culprit.

Good to hear. Failure scenarios like this often are a tipping point to some extent, and changing any part of the combination helped again I guess.
