After a long period of development, testing, and fine-tuning, I’m excited to introduce the feathered native spear to and RedM and the first in Red Dead Redemption 2 – not just as a new weapon, but as a feature that feels like it’s always belonged in the game.
While the custom model brings its own authenticity, most of the work went into making the mechanics feel truly native to RDR2. The throwing animation was modified picked to best fit it, blending naturally with the game’s movement. It has its own melee attributes, so it’s as effective in close combat as it is from a distance.
Throwing and retrieving the spear works seamlessly – you can pick it up just like the hatchet or cleaver, without any awkward transitions. The flight path has been tuned so it travels naturally towards its target, resembling how a spear would in air, with a piercing sound effect that cuts through the air, and a subtle visual trail that follows it in motion.
Every detail was tested and refined to ensure that using the spear feels smooth, responsive, and in line with the game’s design and standards. This is the first time such a throwable spear has been brought to RDR2 and RedM, and it’s built to feel like it’s been part of the game all along.
