Massive Latency doesn't match ping & voice chats randomly cuts out for whatever reason

What is the issue you’re having?

so, i have a ping of around 180 due to me playing on a server that’s semi far away. even with a high ping like that, i should not be getting 10-15 seconds of lag, or delays between people around me doing things or one of my commands going though. I’m also experiencing some issues with voice chat (voice box), where it frequently but at random intervals stops working for around 10 seconds. during this time, the key-bind to use voice chat doesn’t work, and I’m unable to hear anyone either. So far, with the help of support on my home city, we’ve tried the following;
-restarting my router/fiveM
-reinstalling fiveM/gtaV
-restarting my pc
-clearing the fiveM cache

below are two clips showcasing some problems. (i couldn’t get a good clip of the voice chat breaking)
-13 seconds for a single command to go through. - Clipped with Medal.tv (13 seconds for a simple command to go through)
-random lag glitch - Clipped with Medal.tv (random lag spike)

i’d really appreciate any support out there, regarding what the issue might be, and any possible fixes i could try.

What have you tried already to fix the issue?

-restarting my router/fiveM
-reinstalling fiveM/gtaV
-restarting my pc
-clearing the fiveM cache

What server did you get this issue on?

im really at a loss for what’s wrong. my wifi speeds are good, with a 644MB download & 157MB upload. there’s no packet loss, and a relatively low amount of jitter. what on earth is the next step towards a fix?

That’s just a bad connection, nothing else. The server is much more likely to be at fault for these.

im the only one who is having these issues on my server. in the ticket i opened, they said no other reports like this had come in. i used to play this server a lot and besides an occasional bubble, it was fine.

also, the second i launch FiveM i’m getting the message;
“slow system performance detected.
a call into the windows API took too long recently and led to a stutter.
(please close any apps you have running in the background (including windows apps such as file explorer or task manager”

with my pc, i shouldnt have slow performance. a 4070Ti should run fiveM no problem.
is there any possible underlying issue here?

From what I can see is that you are playing on 200ms and from the crashdumps you provided I can see the server you are playing on is poorly optimised.
Connect to the test server and let me know if you crash/things that are wrong. F8 and paste connect cfx.re/join/7b6bor or use FiveM test server - Bottom Dollar Bounties (b3258) / Cfx.re.

I’ll have to do this once I get home in several hours. Though I’m fairly certain something on my end is the issue.

On top of the “slow system performance detected” error message popping up on the start screen of FiveM, before I’ve connected to any server, my console on my main city keeps saying stuff about udp/tcp packet loss.

Yes, you are lagging there is no secret there. You are playing on 200ms… Connect to the test server and let me know if you crash or anything.

Yep, just like my original reply, “it’s just a bad connection” - you’re located physically too far from the server, and your ISP seems to be cheaping out on routing your connection in the best way too, leading to this. You can try using a VPN with an exit close to the server, but that’s about the only solution here.
Oh, and make sure you’re connected to your router via a wire, wireless solutions will only make it worse.

I didn’t crash, even though on the test server It was also displaying at around 150ms I think it was. I couldn’t tell whether it was the server or the person, but someone who was blasting music through their mic kept flickering on and off. So audio might have still been a problem

Yeah, I’m on the top floor of the house, and the router is a floor below making a wired connection impossible. I can try a VPN to see if that works.

Though, the thing is I see that “slow system performance” message the second I launch fiveM, way before I’ve connected to any cities. So a connection problem to a far away city isn’t the cause for that

  1. Do your best to fix that, it’s not hard to buy and run a Cat 5E cable - may need to drill a few small holes, but it’s more than doable; it’ll increase the quality of your connection substantially, not just for FiveM too!
  2. Unless the message appears in-game (on a server while playing), don’t worry about it at all.

im still not entirely convinced my connection is the issue. sometimes i have very little lag, and its just voice chat that doesnt work. if it was my connection, wouldnt voice chat delay and regular lag & latency sync up?

edit; a screenshot of my home cities page is listed below. what exactly is an artifact?

Usually, but not in all cases; it may not be the physical connection, but your ISP, for example, as VoIP is routed on UDP which is throttled by some providers. It just depends, but it’s definitely something to do with your connection, I can tell you that lol

does my connection also cause the cfx login to bug out on my end? seems like every time i launch fiveM i need to re-log in, and sometimes it doesn’t work. this is probably just me with this added issue

That is indicative of an unreliable connection, too, all part of the same problem for you
