How do I make a picture with a camera and save it?

Hello,
I am currently writing a script and it needs to have a functionality were a camera is on a fixed point, invisible and takes a picture every 3 seconds by itself, then stores the picture in the filesystem of the server. Unfortantly I got no idea on how to do that, I looked into some scripts but nothing was there what could be usefull.

Does anybody have some resource or some tips on how I can make it?
