I’m thinking about hosting a server out of my area. Think about also getting 1 gbps internet to host the server with. Is that way too much? How much do I really need for a 32 player slot. The specs will be something around 8-12 cores at around 2.33 hertz and about lets just say 32gb of ram. Overkill? Too much or too little. This will be almost my first time hosting myself with my own server and everything. Just want to get something that I will have no issues with such with lag or things working slowly in-game. Want it to snap quickly but still be in a good price range. Thanks
these are my specs that i pay $15 for
Windows 2016 Standard
50 GB Drive
2 Core 3.7 Ghz
4 GB RAM
Remote Desktop
DDOS Protection
Dedicated IP included
Windows License not included```
Yeah that is overkill. The thing is, you don’t need a whole lot to run a FiveM server with 32 slots. It’s mostly network based, so anything above 100Mbps is more than enough from my experience (I run a Freeroam with hundreds of cars, rarely peaks at 80Mbps upload). Aside from network, storage is important depending on how many resources (and the size of each of them) you plan on using. SSD is also nice to have (pretty much a standard for hosting now) when starting the server.
With at least 1 core and 2GB of ram, you could be surprised with how well it can run (if you’re running FiveM only). You just need to worry about network throughput and storage which depends on the size of the server.
That is priced pretty well. Which provider are you using?
gamehosting. support sucks, and the vps arent all that great, but ive had a good experience and have ran 3 fivem servers off it with no issues
over kill yes, but you should always prepare for the future. never know if youll need to run more servers off of it. add more cars/scripts etc etc. i upgraded to the specs below purely for the space i needed lol
careful with them, i was using them and even the VPS got blocked as they where selling GSP’s.
yeah that was awhile ago, when they offered the GS but they dont anymore, been with them for over a year, would be stupid to now get blocked if that happened.
Alright, thanks guys! I will keep this all in mind! Hopefully soon I can figure out my plans. Maybe ill start with about 100 megs and just upgrade when I feel is needed. No need to start my own community already paying a lot just for starting. Budget is going to be key as I will already be going to get a second router and buying a server and firewall.
How much down do you have? I’ll be running a 32 slot server for now. You think 100mbps is too much? I’m not sure how much it really takes to run a server. I’ll be buying a server. I’ll be around 8 cores with at least 32gb ram. I’ll be also buying a second internet threw a isp. What you think? is 40mbps plenty or… Thanks
yeah over kill like crazy, u should never need 8 cores
Alright, sounds good! Thinking about purchasing a server with 32GB Ram with about 12ish cores. Hoping that will do fine putting more than one server running off the box
- 8 overkill, 12 eh screw send it
I found a server box I would love to purchase. Has 12 cores. Only thing is it has 16gb ram which is plenty but I might upgrade in the future if I really need it. Should host a few servers off the box no issue im hoping. I say just a little overkill isnt as bad as I can use it for other purposes such as rendering and all that fun stuff! Thanks for the help though Gabew!
