Guidance for finding/joining an RP server for myself+friend?

TL;DR below, bolded

My best friend has gotten really into watching Summit’s streams playing on Nopixel “cops and robbers” RP servers. She’s really excited about getting onto an RP server and wants me to play with her and help her find a server. Personally I had never heard of FiveM until she asked me to download it, and I still don’t even know what Nopixel even is, aside from the fact that they apparently have a backlog of 4,000 applications to join their server(s).

We’re totally in over our heads; there’s so many servers and all the seemingly “good” ones have whitelists (understandably) and are likely always full. We’ve never RP’d before, though she’s been getting a lot of inspiration from streams I imagine and I used to watch a lot of LSPDFR videos. We’ve never played modded GTA before. We’re probably going to just join a random open server at some point just to get even the vaguest idea of what to expect but we’d really like to find a server that we can keep coming back to and get to know the people on it.

My friend in particular will probably have trouble finding a server that won’t give her shit:

  • She’s a girl. This alone will get cringy “ironic” OMG A GURL comments or much worse.
  • She’s mute. In practice this really just means she “doesn’t have a mic” which I’ll ask her to put on whitelist applications (to hopefully avoid stupid comments/questions) – a lot of RP servers probably require joining voice chat. She does have a Discord text-to-speech bot she likes to use though.
  • She’s in Europe and I’m in the US, so one of us will likely have terrible ping issues.

Basically, we’d like to join an RP server that has friendly, helpful, intelligent, patient people; doesn’t tolerate trolls/griefers/bigots/assholes; isn’t jam-packed or a ghost town all the time; and is willing to accommodate a mute.* It’d also be nice to have modded clothing options and modded cars. We don’t necessarily need info on specific servers to join, even some direction on where and how to start looking would be helpful, as well as what to generally expect from the whitelisting process.

Thank you!

* fyi: as a “mute” she is literally unable to speak; her vocal chords were permanently damaged in an accident.

As a general rule I always say to just go down the server list. Sort it by player count and you’ll find the most popular servers. Join servers until you find one you like.

This worries me though. Most if not all RP servers require you to have a microphone. This would be the perfect time for her to get over her fears and speak into a mic! There’s nothing to worry about even if you’re a girl or have some sort of speech impediment. You may get some servers that are disrespectful, but that’s the Internet and such setbacks only make you stronger!

TLDR: Make use of the in-game server list and your friend should start using a microphone.

For those replying after me, please read the post before you mindlessly promote your own server

To clarify; someone who is “mute” literally can’t speak, and in her case it’s due to an injury to her vocal chords. She does use a text-to-speech bot in Discord but obviously “texting while driving” is really difficult even in GTA.

I suppose it won’t hurt for her to ask for an exception to the rule, since imo there’s a big difference between not talking in voice chat due to not owning a mic or not speaking English and literally not being able to speak. So I’ll ask that she explain that she’s mute in her whitelist applications.

Thanks for this lol, I’m definitely expecting a bunch of copy-and-paste “join my server” replies

FiveRP Public is starting up on FiveM. Perhaps you can try and get your characters approved on that?
