BREAKING NEWS: ~ Shootout Between Suspect and Police in Bowmanville, Suspect Shot and Killed, Bystander Caught in the Crossfire. The Durham Regional Police Service has announced that multiple Officers discharged their firearms multiple times towards an active shooter in the neighborhoods of Bowmanville. Police say the incident occurred when they received a 911 call for a Home Invasion, in which shortly after Shots Fired were reported. Upon police arrival the suspect immediately opened fire at Officers and a large shootout ensued, more Officers arrived on scene and engaged the shooter through several backyards. Witnesses say they ducked inside their houses. As the gunfire ended the suspect was pronounced deceased, shot and killed by police, as well as a bystander killed. At this time the province’s Special Investigation Unit (S.I.U) has evoked its mandate and the D.R.P.S is not releasing any further information until the completion of the investigation. All 4 Officers involved in the shooting have been placed on a 30-day administrative leave; department policy when Officer Involved Shootings occur.
