Looking to get into FiveM RP and taking time to research the right server and settings etc.
One thing I am not sure about is how much impact playing from EU on NA servers or playing from NA on EU for example would have on the game.
Obviously time when players are on might be a factor, but I don’t see much discussion focusing specifically on the cross-regional aspect of the playerbase in terms of ping and causing laggy interactions.
Is this generally a non-issue which is why its not really discussed? Or do players tend to stay in their own regions even if a server suits them elsewhere for fear of lag ruining the experience?
Since GTA networking is inherently client-side and remote entities are extrapolated no matter what, a 100-200ms delay won’t matter for most normal interactions.
Your answer suggests certain interactions might encounter a problem or two. Are these likely to be game/immersion breaking at key times? Such as car chase for tight corners or near other cars, or bullet registration if being shot at or shooting?
One potentially painful one is vehicle collisions and mainly sudden velocity changes, extrapolation means that “but i didn’t hit you on my screen!” is slightly more common at higher latency.
I’m from Bulgaria and whenever I play in a us server, I have a lot of lag but when I play in a UK server, I have about 65ms which isn’t even that bad at all so you can say there is a ping difference.Sometimes it may not be noticeable but sometimes it really is.
