Hello, recently i wanted to try out the FiveM mod for GTA but when i tried to instal it, the mod wanted to download 550Mb of data from internet so i closed it and tried again. Then it wanted 850Mb so i left it to download. I tried to run the MOD but avast poped up and said that it is virus of type URL: MAL and that it tries to access some websites. I tried to run it again but Avast poped up again and blocked the program. Is it somehow possible for the program to be a virus or malware ? Should i be woried ?
Nope. I believe Avast has had issues with FiveM in the past and, by the looks of it still does.
The downloads are probably updates (like how games update, they have to download stuff from the internet) that connect to the FiveM website. If you don’t trust the mod, or me for that matter, nothing is stopping you from not using it.
Just be aware though that FiveM won’t start unless it updates first.
So it should be safe to use and it will not harm my PC in anyway am i right ?
Well, I’ve been using the mod since January and I haven’t seen any problems so yes, you should be good to run it (assuming your computer can run it).
Edit: I completely forgot to mention this project is open source and you can check out the code for yourself if you still don’t trust anyone.
i use avast and it never tells me its a malware or a virus.
Same, but that doesn’t mean it’ll be the case for everyone. I randomly get reports of certain server URLs being malware, but then reloading the list doesn’t show it again.
shrug
