Why on Earth would you make this such a hassle to Join a Server ? No i Don’t want to Join your Discord just because i wanna check out GTA RP, i knew it was bad but that bad ? Feels like having a Dildo in Sideways uncomfortable and unnecessary, talk about how bad Gmod RP Servers are but at least they have the Knowledge to not Force their Discord Bullcrap down everyones Throat. Anyway that’s my Rant about this Crap but please enlighten me why this makes Sense to you or where I as a Beginner to this Shitshow is Wrong and need to overthink this.
It’s just easiest, there are some servers where there’s no such requirement, but because of that they’re usually full of trolls and otherwise offer a horrible experience due to lack of meaningful player screening. If you’re in RP for the long-term (or at least considering it), you gotta deal with the screening means the servers have in place. It’s all for the greater good.
It used to be worse. Older RP frameworks used the steam identifier as a login, because people couldn’t possibly thinks that anyone would have GTA 5 on Epic or directly on Social Club. Which means you, as a GTA player on SC, needed to have Steam open just to play on the servers.
It only changed after Epic Games gave out GTA 5 for free, which flooded the RP servers with new players (some of them only getting their first computer to play FiveM) with no way to play, because they didn’t have steam.
Now they ask you to join their discord as a form of soft-allowlist. I say soft, because it’s automated, and you don’t have to wait for an admin to allow you to join, like it used to happen back in the SA:MP and Gmod days.
I do have my own problems with this, mostly because folks who are new to this type of community-centered games (both players and community owners.) don’t know how to use the internet, and treat their discord server as their personal web-server.
Reports? discord. Chat? discord. Hosting images? discord (not anymore since the CDN changes, but still). Forum?!?! discord (I have never seen a more garbage forum in my life). F**king admin panel?? You guessed it, discord.
Sadly, discords are not used just for allowlisting. Community owners sometimes use it to spy on their players and even kick them for playing on other servers (I have seen it happen a lot for staff players, not so much on regular ones). It’s stupid. Good thing FiveM added a way to block rich presence.
This is pretty much it, even with double counter, Warden, and all the other Discord based methods of screening you still get cheaters, trolls, hackers, so we have to do this.
all of that sounds pretty horrible and some of that proves Exactily my Point especially for new Players just to make it clear i am not completely against using Discord on Community based Servers, you allready mentioned Gmod most of the Servers there also heavily depent on Discord but only after you actually decide to Play more than once there (like Joining a faction, Doing Jobs and so) which makes much more sense to me at least for again New Player
I totally get the Problems with Trolls, I am somewhat in for the Long-Term but for a New Player is this a horrible Experience no matter what and I also Don’t Think that Trolls with Determination will be stopped just because of the Player screening, but for someone who just wants to try GTA RP out without knowing that this Server is the right one still beeing forced to join Discord Before playing is still ridiculous not because its pointless not at all but because its hindering new Players from simply Enjoying something for the First Time
