BRK Critter Care — Animal & Livestock Interaction for RedM / VORP

BRK Critter Care expands the ways players can interact with animals and livestock throughout the RedM world.

Built primarily for VORP Core, Critter Care adds hands-on animal care and gathering activities for ranches, farms, homesteads, and servers that want the animals already in the world to have more purpose.

Players are not restricted to a single ranch or predefined interaction point. Configured animals can be interacted with wherever they are found.

Critter Care is designed so server owners can decide which interactions belong on their server, which animals support them, what players receive, who can perform them, and how the systems fit into their economy.

Dynamic Animal Activities

Players can shear, milk, wash, and brush animals with animations and configurable props that both serve a gameplay purpose and give players something visible to use in RP.

Brushing animals actually cleans them, and so does washing.

The supported animals are configurable, so the system can be adapted around the animals and RP style your server uses.

Egg & Animal Waste Collection

Eggs and animal waste can be found throughout the world and collected as inventory items.

These can be used however your server wants through cooking, crafting, farming, businesses, production chains, economy systems, or general RP.

Interactive Tools

Special inventory items are used for animal interactions, with equip and unequip animations to make the tools visible during gameplay.

The props and their placement can also be configured.

Configurable Setup

Critter Care comes heavily preconfigured and is designed to be ready to use, while still giving server owners control over the important parts.

You can configure things such as:

  • Supported animals

  • Reward items

  • Reward amounts

  • Interaction tools

  • Props

  • Prop placement

  • Job access

  • Interaction restrictions

  • Discord logging

I literally LOVE this script! It’s amazing!! Adds so much immersion and now players who don’t own a ranch can feel included and still get some of the materials only ranchers can. Plus, they can try to steal other player’s cow’s milk! Adds some conflict!

this idea was implemented btw! critter care now includes egg collecting as well as a few other goodies

Critter Care V2 — In Active Production

Critter Care V2 is currently in production and is one of my highest-priority BRK projects.

The original Critter Care has been around since 2024, and V2 has grown into a much larger update than originally planned. I appreciate everyone’s patience while I take the time to do it properly.

Some of What Is Coming in V2

Shared BRK Tools

Critter Care V2 uses the new shared BRK tool system for:

  • Shears

  • Milk Bucket

  • Soap

  • Brush

Tools can be equipped and put away with visible props and animations.

The same shared tool system will also be used by:

  • BRK Resourceful Ranger

  • BRK Fish Filet

  • Future BRK resources

Tool access will be handled through BRK Menu.

BRK Menu

BRK Menu and BRK Utils are planned to release alongside Critter Care V2.

New Interaction Minigames

Critter Care V2 is moving appropriate interactions toward skill-based minigames.

The new Drag minigame for milking is already finished and supports repeated controlled inputs, success, failure, timing, difficulty and configurable consequences.

Expanded Milking

V2 development currently includes configurable milking support for:

  • Cows

  • Goats

  • Bison

  • Horses

Milking interactions include player positioning, animations, stool placement, bucket placement, animal handling and interaction-specific behavior.

Improved Brushing

Brushing behavior is being expanded depending on the animal.

Where Red Dead provides an appropriate native interaction, Critter Care can use it for animals such as horses and cattle. Other supported animals can use separate behavior rather than forcing one animation onto every species.

Tool Durability

V2 includes optional configurable durability for animal-care tools.

Optional BRK RP Dice integration can also affect durability:

  • Normal durability loss

  • Critical success can prevent durability loss

  • Critical failure can potentially break a tool

Better Interaction Behavior

Development includes:

  • Walk-to positioning

  • Interaction distance checks

  • Animation handling

  • Prop placement

  • Mounted interaction rules

  • Wagon restrictions

  • Animal-specific positioning

  • Interaction cancellation

  • Safer cleanup when interactions end unexpectedly

Expanded Configuration

V2 configuration is being separated by interaction type so server owners can independently control:

  • Milking

  • Egg / waste collection

  • Shearing

  • Washing

  • Brushing

Individual systems can be enabled, disabled, restricted and tuned separately.

Job restrictions are also being expanded so servers have more control over how professions affect access to Critter Care activities.

Future Framework Compatibility

VORP remains the primary supported and fully tested framework, but expanded RedM framework compatibility is part of the V2 direction.

Additional frameworks will only be listed as supported once their implementation has actually been tested.

Feature suggestions, supported-animal ideas, integration requests, framework compatibility requests and quality-of-life suggestions are welcome while V2 is in production.
