Me and a friend are wanting to start our own server,and he has good internet,and we want to just put together a server with spare parts we have lying around instead of renting a server.
What kind of specs are needed for running a server at home?
So we can know which parts to use.
Almost anything… Mine run off a old AMD dual core with only 4gb ram … (DDR2)
I have a very old Dell Poweredge that has 2 single core xeons at 2ghz,but the have HT,and 3.5GB of DDR ECC RAM.
Do you think it would work?
Or is it a little bit too old?
Just try it? You’ll get your answer faster 
it going to take a full day at least lol before i would be able to try it,because i will need to dig it out of my closet,clean it up(3 years worth of dust),and then set up windows on it again,which is harder due no USB boot support.
but i will start working on it tomorrow.
Anyway, the server doesn’t really do very much. The only thing you need is bandwidth.
