I’ve really had a hard time trying to wrap my head around upvotes. From my understanding, the premise is to better rank the servers on the server list by upvoting it. But from what I’ve seen is that people who have boatloads of money just buy them from ZAP Hosting. Personally, I have worked so hard on my server, and everyone who joins it falls in love with it. But no one can see my server on the server list because there are people paying $3000 a month to get to the top of the list.
I don’t like this. It doesn’t represent servers at all. Why not make it so every player with a cfx account gets one upvote and why not a downvote too. Maybe even a reviews section on the server page where people can read what people really have to think.
Its totally fair.
Everyone can buy upvotes for the same price.
I run a server with 200-300 players online at the same time and the only upvotes this server has are mine (10).
These have no impact on the playerbase once you found your core playerbase.
If everyone “falls in love” with your project it should be no problem to take the same route as my server and establish a good amount of daily players even without them.
About a review tab: thats a good idea and im totally down for it.
That’s a horrible idea, then every idiot who wants to badmouth anyone else will have a platform to do so and we would have infinite more moderation duties (including of weird languages) as well as potential criminal liability for allowing slander… let alone people rewarding people for dishonest reviews, or review bombing… yeah no.
how about a system which generates a trust score for each user?
Maybe it could consider played time on this server aswell as showing it on said review?
Every big site like amazon is facing that challenge of “fake reviews” or “bad mouth reviews” but i still think the feature would be well worth the time of development.
Think about choosing a keyboard on amazon without reading a single review
Upvotes alone tell nothing about the quality of the server and most people only choose the server by title and concurrent playerbase.
Not a big problem but it could be better for both sides serverowner / user as the expectations on certain aspects would be set the right way.
Saying that this is bad because people could post fake / bad stuff about a server is also true for the advertise server section of https://forum.cfx.re/.
Edit: Maybe a minimum playtime would be a good idea to rate some aspects of the server.
I also personally believe that the current upvote system is a little absurd. Upvotes early on was a lot easier to work but now that FiveM is more mainstream than usual it seems like a lot of servers are generating revenue, hence why upvotes are so expensive nowadays.
I feel like we should find some other way to label servers in the server listing, or like dewen said combine upvotes and reviews?
