Rome

So this doesn’t make any sense. Rock-star/Take2 purchases FiveM, puts up a TOS against real manufactured vehicles. Now they are in the works of project ROME, and from my understanding they will allow said real manufactured vehicles in project ROME as long as its on the vehicle manufacture approval list that Rock-Star will provide. I guess my thing would be, is it really about the IRL cars or did they actually just want to kill off FiveM? Just sad to see what has happened to what use to be such a great community and watching it die.

You might want to do some research before posting. Copyright law prevents the use which Rockstar didn’t make.

explain why they are going to allow it in ROME

Where did Rockstar say this exactly?

The TOS against the use of any IP has always been there, not necessarily enforced prior to R* acquisition.

You question “is it really about the IRL cars” is easily answered by researching Intellectual Property and Copyright Legislation.

Its a big company, if they have entered into some form of contract with other companies to display their IP, thats only a win for servers. (if in fact this is true, you havent provided a link to this information)

If you think FiveM is dead or was killed because people can’t use real vehicles anymore, you’re wrong.

First, you were never allowed to use real brands on FiveM; it just wasn’t punished. That doesn’t mean it was legal or accepted before the acquisition.

Second, if you think a server can only survive with real brands, then you’re making terrible servers without imagination, scripts, maps, or vehicles that aren’t everywhere.

How much misinformation can you put in one post? Yes.

There is no confirmation that ROME is actually still happening. You probably read some biased post on the internet from someone who intended for gullible people like yourself to start questioning the future of FiveM. ROME was leaked prior to the acquisition, the likely scenario (not saying this is true either) is that it was cancelled once they decided to acquire CFX instead. Rockstar have worked on many concepts over the years that were scrapped.

Real life vehicles are not allowed on FiveM because you don’t own the rights to use them. This also didn’t result in FiveM being “killed” as there is more players now than there ever has been. FiveM is thriving just fine without them and servers can actually start using quality content from those that actually use their creative freedom.

Well, if R* bought FiveM forcefully due to it’s monopoly, don’t expect FiveM to stay the same for years to come. They will do what all big companies do, eat small ambitious project for more Income due to the fact FiveM was nemesis to their Online Services.

You can’t “forcefully” purchase something. Even if it’s publicly traded, there is a lot of hoops to jump through before an adversarial takeover.

It’s so very clear people who make these kinds of statements have never actually worked at large company beyond potentially being an hourly associate.if you think FiveM was hurting gta online sales enough to warrant a takeover, you should listen to a TakeTwo financial call and understand that Cfx isn’t even a rounding error in their quarterly reports.

If my words led you to write such a detailed response to Rockstar’s FiveM takeover, I believe it only highlights the concerns I raised. Many of us are aware of the circumstances surrounding Rockstar’s takeover of FiveM, and it’s widely seen as a deeply disappointing move especially considering the impact on a passionate community project like FiveM and how heavy aligned it became to Rockstar other than to free Community Spirit, You’re too naive if you think it was an agreed co-operation between both parties. Go google, there are plenty videos and documents about how everything happened. For once I thought positively “Hey, Rockstar bought FiveM - Finally, a modders project that is being supported”… but once I knew how they “bought FiveM” I was disgusted.

There was no original intent by nta to sell it to r*. It was the underhanded behind his back dealings and his lack of business savvy and other issues that caused the sale to happen.

Did you come across the fivem team document online? Interesting read and a sad story how a guy was treated.

That’s exactly what I meant—I completely agree with your comment. It’s deeply sad and painful. I’ve been here since the project was in its infancy, and hearing the truth behind R* acquisition is breaking my heart. Especially when the original developer and platform owner gets no credit for his remarkable contribution.

This was the point in my post as well.

There was no ill intent on Rockstars side, you are speaking of drama that occurred between the team prior to the acquisition. The document you speak of (and the videos based off such document) tell one side of the story with many details left out. Only those directly involved know the full story of what happened and why a lot of things occurred so I wouldn’t jump to any assumptions based off some random post on the internet.

Yes, but saying this was a Rockstar takeover is not accurate…

Also, the TOS did allow for copyright infringement from the very beginning. There was just no efficient way to enforce it. That had nothing to do with the acquisition other than having better clarity and at least some resource to manage compliance (you can argue the effectiveness all you want, that’s not what this is about).

Also ROME was not a GTA 6 creation like the original poster claimed. Not even the FiveM team document said that, it’s just a complete misunderstanding of the facts.

You can say you don’t like the direction but being mad you can infringe on other people’s copyrights is childish.

I believe we’re living in a free world where everyone has the right to choose their own opinions; And I choose to believe such thing due to the fact business is cruel and I cannot see other reason than R* knowing in fact that FiveM opposing their Online Services hence the purchase.
Also, if so, provide us then what’s the real reason “Behind the curtains” that’s not like it’s an FBI secret of some sort.

Rockstar purchased FiveM as it’s the most popular modding framework using their game and they seen its potential. It’s a smart business decision, what I mentioned was related to the drama…rockstar were not involved in the drama and it was going on long before the acquisition talks even started. There was internal issues with the team for a long time. The other side has chosen to stay silent as they were hoping this would all just go away but clearly that isn’t working since people will believe anything they read on the internet.
