I will start by saying I love Github. I am also a Free and Open Source evangelist! I think FOSS software is the best software, even to the point of being a Linux “power user” since 1999.
That said, you’re absolutely wrong.
Nowhere in the Releases Rules and FAQ does it state that a Github download link is required. There is a very specific requirement for a Github link, it is allowed as long as the content on the repository is not compressed. It may also not be obfuscated, minified, or otherwise encrypted. The full source code must be provided, not just “available.”
Nowhere does it say Github is required. It says:
- Free releases: Releases that are released for free must contain a download other than Tebex (such as a direct download or GitHub). You may include a Tebex link but it must not be the only download.
“Such as.” It’s not even required that an Open Source license is required. Though why you would not release the source code without such a license just seems silly.
