RAGE error: ERR_GFX_INIT

I’m running up-to-date with latest game-ready nvidia driver for my RTX 3080. My processor is an R9 5900x (mentioned because it was suggested relevant elsewhere).

When running native RDR2 I used to get ERR_GFX_INIT; after contacting Rockstar support I added the launch arguments “-sgadriver=d3d12 -ignorepipelinecache -USEALLAVAILABLECORES -high” which makes RDR2 native run fine.

When I try to launch RedM though, I still get “RAGE error: ERR_GFX_INIT”. Anyone know if theres somewhere I need to add these arguments within RedM or another solution? (Other than rolling back to a really old Graphics driver that breaks other games)

Have you tried the solution to the old issue of “ERR_GFX_STATE”? Maybe it is the same solution, even though its not INIT.

Switch from Vulkan to DX12 in your RDR2 Settings.

it’s set to DX12 in RDR2, but that hasnt helped :frowning:

copy/paste your adjusted DX12 system.xml file from the RDR2 folder into:
users/[yourusername]/appdata/roaming/citizenfx/ (and into the subfolder rdr3settings as well for safety). that’s what i just did and it finally worked.

the issue is that redm was trying to read from and/or generate its own system.xml file in this other folder, and wasn’t looking at RDR’s system.xml at all, so it kept crashing regardless of what i changed in RDR’s native settings.

Hello there I got Solution! I make Viedeo For me it was working

Hey, hope you found a solution. I had this same issue months ago, without help from Rockstar, after upgrading too.

I eventually figured it out - my riser cable was introducing timing errors when relaying the data from my GPU to my mB. If you’re connecting the two with a riser cable, I’d recommend removing that cable and plugging your GPU into your mB directly.

Interestingly, my GF encountered similar issues which were occurring from running Discord along side GTA or RDR. Discord had a bug that was slowing her GPU, and to compensate the GPU was using a more power to run the game. If it didn’t crash with this bug, the whole system would shut down. We fixed it by upgrading her PSU - most PSUs will lose their ability to produce their max rated power output over time. After so many years a 600w PSU will become 580w, etc. Her system was crashing after going over the threshold it could produce, but still under its max rated output. Replacing it fixed the problem.

Hope this helps you or someone else.
