What is the issue you’re having?
Hi everyone,
I’ve been a passionate member of the RedM and FiveM community for a long time. Recently, I made the switch to Linux (Pop!_OS) as my daily driver, joining a rapidly growing number of enthusiasts who prefer an open-source environment for both work and gaming.
While I love the depth of the roleplay community, it’s a bit heartbreaking to be locked out of the client-side experience simply because of the OS. With the massive success of the Steam Deck and the continuous improvements in Proton, Linux gaming is no longer a niche. We are seeing a significant shift: many high-end users with powerful hardware—like the RX 7900 XTX or Ryzen systems—are now choosing Linux.
The irony is that the server-side software (FXServer) already runs flawlessly on Linux. The only missing piece of the puzzle is making the client-side (specifically the anti-cheat ‘Adhesive’) compatible with Proton.
Enabling Linux support would not only grow the community but also future-proof the platform as the desktop landscape continues to evolve. We are a tech-savvy and dedicated part of the community, and many of us would be more than happy to help with testing or providing feedback.
Are there currently any specific technical hurdles or plans on the roadmap regarding Proton compatibility? We would love to see some official support for the Linux platform!
Best regards,
Steffen_Konner
What have you tried already to fix the issue?
I have attempted to run RedM through the latest Proton versions (including Proton GE and Experimental) via Steam and Bottles. While the base game (RDR2) works, the RedM client fails to initialize due to the ‘Adhesive’ anti-cheat system not recognizing the Wine/Proton environment.
I have also looked into GPU Passthrough (VFIO) as a workaround. While technically possible, it requires a very complex setup and secondary hardware, which isn’t a practical or user-friendly solution for the broader Linux community.

Additional comments
I want to thank the team for all the amazing work you’ve done over the years. The RedM experience is unique, and that’s why we want to take it with us to our preferred OS. There are many technical experts in the Linux community who would surely love to help with beta testing or bug reporting if a Proton-compatible version were to be considered. We’re not just looking for a way to play, we’re looking to contribute to a growing ecosystem.
