No server list

the game works but i dont get a server list screen i only get the purple background picture. any suggestion?

i have read the FAQ and i dont see anything relating to my problem. and no i dont have any error message.
when i scroll with the mouse it can hear clicking like the cursor is hovering over stuff but i cant see it
