Hello all,
My name is Smith. I have been following this change in the law for a long time because it is very important. I am noticing a lot of people getting mistaken about the law and I’m going to explain it. Understand this law has NOT been officially passed yet, but it has been passed by the FCC on a 2-3 vote.
What is Net Neutrality?
Net Neutrality is a law that has been put into place back in 2015 that denies your ISP (Internet Service Provider) from creating package plans for things on the internet like streaming or using large amounts of Bandwidth.
What doesn’t this affect?
I am noticing people get mistaken, this law does NOT effect the Facebook Corp.,Twitter, youtube, or twitch directly. This will effect them indirectly, meaning, that because your internet provider can have a package plan for streaming. This means that you will have to pay extra to use certain websites, or you won’t have as strong of a connection to the web host. This is because the internet company wants you to pay for the streaming package to have a strong bandwidth connection. It effects facebook, YouTube, Twitter, twitch; because many people won’t want to pay the extra money for the package plan and so many users won’t use their services.
Will it affect Fivem?
Probably not? No one really knows for sure what the future holds. Net Neutrality hasn’t effected anyone before the law went into place, so I’m guessing that internet companies won’t put package plans into place. However, internet companies could put a package plan for streaming and gaming and leave a base price like they have now for bandwidth. That is the likely possibility, because it won’t effect most of America. Most of America uses the internet to work and occasionally check Facebook. Facebook doesn’t use much of your internet’s bandwidth, so I’m guessing they will leave that in the base price package. However applications like FiveM, YouTube, Twitch, and any other multiplayer game will be in the gamer/streaming package because it uses more bandwidth.
Can this be a good thing?
Sure it can! A lot of people are freaking out because they’re scared for what the future holds. The internet company isn’t there to loose buisness, they want as much buisness as possible. If anything, this outcome could be a turning point for the internet. If people pay more for streaming packages, that is profit in the internet company’s hand. They can use that money to upgrade their servers to compete for the best connection and this could ultimately lead to internet speeds of 100 mb/s down and upload speeds! This will also allow the internet company to save bandwidth for those users that are willing to pay more for it. This will lead to faster internet speeds.
Really, no one knows what the future holds. However the best part about being human is speaking our voice, and being able to dream big dreams. I personally don’t know what to think about the final result. I’m in the same boat as many of you, if I have to pay my internet provider more for a better connection and to play games, I will probably do that. Like many of you will. I won’t be too happy, but I’ll still hand over the money and enjoy playing games.
(Ps. I wrote this on my phone so sorry for spelling errors)
