.Net Framework

Hi everyone,

First of all, this isn’t a demand or a complaint—it’s simply a suggestion from someone who genuinely enjoys building systems and exploring architecture. I’ve built my own framework already, so I’m not blocked by any of this. I’m mostly curious about the long-term vision for the platform.

One thing I’ve been thinking about is modern C#/.NET support.

FiveM already supports C#, but it’s still tied to the older Mono ecosystem. With modern .NET (especially .NET 10 and beyond), both Windows and Linux have first-class runtime support, and the ecosystem has evolved tremendously over the years. I think adopting it would open the door to a much cleaner, more maintainable, and more performant development experience.

Modern .NET brings a lot of engineering practices that feel natural today:

  • Dependency Injection

  • Proper service lifetimes instead of relying on globals/singletons everywhere

  • Better asynchronous programming

  • Stronger tooling

  • Continuous performance improvements every release

  • Modern language features

  • Mature networking and serialization libraries

  • Excellent testing ecosystem

Instead of every framework reinventing the wheel, many of these patterns could simply become the standard way of writing FiveM resources.

One thing I’ve never been a huge fan of is the amount of manual threading many resources rely on.

In my opinion, an event-driven architecture is usually a much cleaner approach. Most gameplay systems don’t actually need endless loops or background threads constantly running. Events, async operations, and proper scheduling often produce code that’s easier to understand, easier to maintain, and generally more efficient.

Another area I think could be improved is authentication and authorization.

Instead of relying almost exclusively on permissions defined in server.cfg, imagine having proper claims-based authorization available out of the box. User claims, scoped permissions, token validation, identity services… all concepts that are already mature in modern backend development.

I’d also love to see infrastructure become more “batteries included.”

Things such as:

  • Redis integration

  • Distributed caching

  • Pub/Sub support

  • Better clustering capabilities

  • Built-in dependency injection

  • Configuration providers

  • Logging abstractions

  • Health checks

  • Metrics and observability

These are all common building blocks for modern server applications.

For context, this is actually how my own framework works today.

FiveM mainly handles the game-facing side, while almost all of my business logic runs inside a Rust backend. That backend manages caching, persistence, authentication, and communication. Redis is used for clustering and distributed state when necessary.

For example:

  • Frequently accessed data is cached.

  • Real-time values (such as money) bypass cache when appropriate.

  • Redis synchronizes multiple instances if I ever scale beyond a single server.

So I’m certainly not waiting for these features to exist—I already built solutions around them. I’m simply wondering whether this is something the platform itself is considering in the future.

Another thought I had concerns the future of Cfx.re under Rockstar.

With GTA VI eventually becoming the primary platform, are there any plans to rethink the underlying architecture?

Whether that’s:

  • a completely new multiplayer platform,

  • a major redesign of FiveM,

  • or simply continuous modernization of the current runtime.

I’m genuinely curious what the long-term vision looks like.

Personally, if Rockstar ever decided to build an official server platform for GTA VI, I’d love to see it designed with modern software engineering principles from day one.

If I had to recommend scripting languages, I’d probably suggest:

  • C# (.NET) as the primary high-level language because of its maturity, tooling, ecosystem, and continuous evolution.

  • Go as another interesting option due to its simplicity, excellent concurrency model, cross-platform support, and very strong backend ecosystem.

Both have become outstanding choices for server development over the past decade.

If none of this is currently planned, that’s completely understandable.

I’ll probably continue doing what I always do: experimenting on my own, integrating native calls through DLLs where possible, or potentially building an entirely new framework around modern C# with proper architecture and best practices.

Either way, I’m excited about the future of the platform.

I’m mostly posting this because I’d genuinely love to hear whether any of these ideas are already on the roadmap—or if they’re discussions happening internally.

Thanks for reading, and thanks to everyone who’s been working on FiveM over the years. :slightly_smiling_face:

FiveM Discussion > Platform Suggestions would be more appropriate. Also please follow the basic rules of proper text writing, use paragraphs and all that good stuff because nobody is reading that literal wall of text lol

Sorry buddy i asked chatgpt doing that reformat. Now it’s more proper to read.

And magically it’s twice as long now.

but at least you’ve got the paragraphs, right?

But if you’re asking for better C# support, see the post below regarding the upcoming changes in FiveM for GTA Enhanced :+1:

Great! C# dot net 10! That’s all i wanted! I am about to make something crazy! My favorite language is here! Thanks guys!!
