Need help with finishing script

I’m working on a script and I’m trying to add a feature to it so that it removes an inventory item with use.

I’ve tried ever way I can think of to have it look for the item and remove and allow user to continue or alert that the user doesn’t have any of the specified item. Could someone please help me with this?

I’ve tried everything I could come up with for roughly 3 days now

Do you use ESX for your server?

If so:

In client:

TriggerServerEvent('removeInventoryItem','item', quantity)

In server:

RegisterServerEvent('esx_fishing:removeInventoryItem')
AddEventHandler('esx_fishing:removeInventoryItem', function(item, quantity)
	local xPlayer = ESX.GetPlayerFromId(source)
	xPlayer.removeInventoryItem(item, quantity)
end)

I’ve tried that and it isn’t working… I’ve looked at a dozen other scripts and tried to replicate the code from them as well, when I add that code it breaks and the script doesn’t show a blip or marker
