Yes, it’s 100% possible and many popular communities do it.
You need to route the incoming traffic through a mitigation service like Cloudflare, and that’ll essentially mask your Home IP and prevent pesky rats. There are a bunch of methods available on YouTube for running a home VPS / dedicated server. It’s just the initial setup.
Once you’re good, get Linux or Windows Server, whatever you’re most comfortable with, don’t listen to anyone telling you you need one over the other. It comes down to knowing how to optimize your VPS which is the main factor.
