How to resolve MITL error when launching RedM
Author: Coyote
MITL errors result from an issue communicating with Rockstar’s ROS (Rockstar Online Services) to verify the game license.
This can be caused by one or more of the following:
- poor internet connection,
- anti-virus,
- firewall block,
- issue with RedM (corrupted/not installed correctly)
- issue with game files within Steam.
Let’s start with a good baseline for your PC:
- Run a speed test and provide screenshot results here.
- Run Windows updates and then start your computer.
- If there are no WinUpdates pending, restart your computer.
Next, let’s verify no issues with the 3 online services:
- Verify there’s no issues with Rockstar Online Services:
- Verify there’s no issues with Steam services:
- Verify there’s no issues with Cfx services:
Next, let’s rule out where where MTL is occurring
➵ Do each step ONE at a time.
➵ IMPORTANT: After each step, launch RedM to test whether that step resolved it.
Step 1: Verify RDR2 game files through Steam:
➵ Launch RedM to see if launches without error.
➵ Be sure to connect to RedM server in order of operations (Steam, RedM.
➵ If still an MITL error, proceed to next.
Step 2: Temporarily turn off your anti-virus. Since there are many different AV’s you’ll need to Google your AV for how to turn it off.
➵ Launch RedM to see if launches without error.
➵ If still an error, proceed to next.
Step 3: Temporarily turn off Windows Firewall:
➵ Launch RedM to see if launches without error.
➵ If still an error, proceed to next.
Step 4: Uninstall and reinstall RedM. Pay close attention when pointing RedM to the correct location. After installation, launch RedM and grant permission to the firewall to allow RedM to pass through.
Good luck and good gaming!
