How is Gotham more Serious than the rest?
It starts with our RP based rule system. Gotham does NOT set itself to be a cops-n-crooks, or a, “it’s just a game.” Server… this is Serious RP, and we treat it as such. If you do not enjoy taking RP seriously, and realistically, you will not enjoy this server.
For starters, /me and /do systems are required prior to RP of certain types… What does this mean? When a person (for example) pulls out a firearm to initiate a robbery, mugging, shooting… a person is required to type a /me before doing so
Example:
/me would pull a firearm from the back of his waistband.
Only exception is when fleeing, or actively engaged in a gunfight. Failure to properly type /me or respond to /do’s in-server results in a ban.
/scenes and other text rp is encouraged and required by rules. While voice is also strongly suggested, by rules, RP’s use a mix of text and speech to play scenarios out.
Realistic Economy and Strict Penal Code
In Gotham, the economy is realistic, and the penal code is strict. Our Laws reward compliance and honesty with Law Enforcement, and heavily punish violent, or dangerous felonies.
For Example:
You are in possession of 5g of Meth… do you run? Or surrender the substances to the Officer and Comply… compliance, will grant you a Criminal Citation, or maybe 10 Months (minutes) in prison… running from that cop, will easily land you with 200 months, and over 10k in fines…
Felonies in Gotham will severely damage a character, financially and otherwise. Felonies like evasion, are supposed to only be utilized in serious, no-choice scenarios. Running “for fun” is a quick way to get banned, or wind up in prison.
Gotham is NOT a cops and crooks server, you wanna make it as a criminal? Relying on speedy cars, or shooting skills will NOT assist you… only by being smart, using your head, will you find any success.
Gangs and Hood Life
It absolutely exists in Gotham, and New York. But again, constant gang-wars of shooting, drive-bys, robberies, etc. Are NOT gonna fly. For starters, it breeds poor RP. Street Gangs often involve themselves in petty crime most of the time. Gang Life in Gotham often will consist of street drug sales, Graffiti, occasional fist fights and scraps, mostly you’ll be chillin’ in your turf.
Why Shooting isn’t Always a Good Idea.
Character-Kills and Player-Kills are enforced, and serious.
A Character-Kill or “CK” is the death of a character in RP, resulting in the deleting of the character and their assets. This occurs often in gangs and criminals mostly.
If you decide to shoot at a Police Officer, and they ‘down you’… that is a CK or RP injuries, resulting in arrest… attempted murder of a LEO is Life in Prison.
Gang Murders are almost always CK’s… so long as the RP is properly done. If you and a rival gang have beef… and someone pops out of an alleyway and shoots you… that’s a CK, your character was murdered.
Value of your Life
In Gotham, your character’s life should matter… Are you gonna throw it all away over a baggie of weed? Absolutely not. And if you do, you’ll find yourself being removed quicker than you can imagine.
NYPD vs Civs and Crims
The NYPD, the most famous Police Department likely in the world; here at Gotham, the NYPD are focused on RP, and not hiding most things behind Rank. Officers are given a large fleet of vehicles, and realistic paid-duty gear for ultimate realism and effect.
Police are more powerful in some ways than civs… equipment, and firepower is one. Police typically are better equipped than criminals, and that is the case in Gotham. If you expect to get an automatic rifle, body armor, helmet and some buddies… rob a bank and take on a SWAT team in a fair 4v4… not gonna happen.
Realistically speaking, if you’re cornered in your home it’s the end of the line. Your aim alone will not typically save you, nor should it.
Best way to kill a cop is ambush. Like in real life, taking on a ready and armed group of Officers will 9/10 result in you being put down, and CK’d.
This does not breed “Play to Win” (p2w) it actually prevents it. Police are less powerful in general situations… they are restricted by Law, Use-of-Force, etc… Police have to operate on Justifiable circumstances, Reasonable Suspicion, Probable Cause… etc.
Often, most crimes are committed out of Police view, and due to restrictions (especially on the Liberty City Map) its difficult to properly catch criminals who use common sense.
Once a criminal is caught, it’s often THEIR FAULT. Your mistakes and recklessness shouldn’t be fixable by a car that goes 200mph… or a gun and some armor.
Killing cops on your terms is relatively easy… on a traffic stop, you hop out and blast that cop through the windshield, he is at a severe disadvantage.
Once a group of 10 cops show up to your crib a few days later… you’re screwed, as you’d be irl. Cops with Shields, Rifles, etc.
The goal is realism.
How to Succeed as a Criminal
Simply put… be smart. Police operate on Reasonable Suspicion and Probable Cause. If you sell a civ, or a local baggie of weed, chill out.
You simply being nearby does NOT legally warrant a Stop and Search under generally circumstances. You freaking out, running from the area, or speeding away. Is how you GET CAUGHT… not escape.
Common sense is the biggest factor.
How do I get a Gun?
Well, if this is your first question, look somewhere else. But, guns, knives, etc. Are only acquired through player-to-player sales and interactions. Which inventory is then regulated by Administration Staff.
Guns and Ammo are not common, this adds to the realism and fear-factor when one gets pulled out. Many people will NOT have them, and when someone does. That gun could be what causes a CK on your character.
Guns and Shootings are heavily regulated, guns are supposed to be a shock factor… When you can guess most civs have them, there is no OOC concern or fear, as it’s predictable.
Goal of Gotham
We want to provide a serious, story-based, realistic RP experience. Our Goal is to be a place for serious RP’ers, who are tired of the p2w, meta, and subpar RP of 99% of the ‘realistic’ servers that exist on FiveM.
