FiveM uninstalled itself and vanished from my computer?

Where do i start? Maybe im crazy. Maybe im not the only one here. This morning at around 11am BST, i started up my FiveM to do some RP, all of a sudden, my game closes down. I thought “maybe i closed it myself”, so i started it up again, and it closes again. This time i thought, “maybe this is a crash” yet no crash or errors popped up so i thought “okay this is weird” and i waited to see if anything would happen. Nothing. I thought i would give it one last shot, i opened FiveM successfully but the third time wasn’t the charm. It closes again and this time both FiveM and FiveM Singleplayer were removed from my PC completely. I checked my computer to see if its still on my computer in a folder somewhere. No luck. I checked my bin. No luck. I checked for anything else to do with FiveM, the application data is gone. (Bare in mind, i was on my desktop, i wasn’t touching or doing anything at the time except waiting). With my FiveM gone, i asked around if anyone or any of my friends has had this issue, i have gotten one response and he said no. I have no idea if the only person affected by this or not. Is this a bug? Am i being hacked? At this point im confused, and i want to know why my game was wiped of my computer by “itself.” I am going to try a virus scan later on to see if maybe it was a virus that took it away which is very unlikely.

I havent tried to reinstall because i want to know who else has had this issue, whether im the only one or not, whether this is a bug or a hack.

It’s most likely your own antivirus or some other software deleting it due to a false positive. Files don’t magically delete themselves

FiveM’s application is writing restrictive permissions to the folders I have downloaded its executable file to, and not only do I not appreciate that, it does not make sense. Not only can I not undo them or even comprehend why this is occurring, reinstallation of the application (not solely on behalf of this) seems to be undoable, and Chrome is only allowing renamed copies of the application (i.e. FiveM (1)) to be downloaded to the folder whose updates at the moment are still nonfunctional.

I am simply trying to update FiveM but Chrome is disallowing me from downloading the executable directly from FiveM’s homepage to my /Downloads/ folder on behalf of ‘Insufficient Permissions’ Chrome now has that did not previously exist prior to the installation of FiveM’s erroneous update.

The whole reason I am in this situation now is not only because of the erroneous update, but because the application has decided to remove itself from my PC following the installation of the erroneous update. Some information or enlightenment about a potential resolution for this situation is considerably desirable at this point.

Nowhere in the FiveM code do any permissions get set. This is 100% your antivirus’ doing.

Never previously—even with it enabled—has my antivirus been problematic with FiveM.
It’s disabled right now which leads me to believe something with FiveM is problematic.

It’s Avast.
Usually it is punctual about notifying me about any blocked applications; it has not reported a single thing about FiveM.

I have restarted Chrome with administrative permissions and have reattempted to download the executable from FiveM’s homepage, to no avail. Shown below references the aforementioned circumstance of Chrome disallowing ‘FiveM.exe’ from saving in my /Downloads/ folder, yet permitting a renamed copy to.

Keep in mind FiveM.exe doesn’t exist in its installation directory because of the aforementioned circumstance.

Restarting my PC corrected the issue.

Problems got even worse for me when I tried making FiveM an exception in Avast. I can’t download the file anymore without clicking the download link 300 times.

Apparently I don’t even have permission to dowload the installer anymore.

Exactly the same issue I had; creating an exception did not do anything.
I have just restarted my PC and the issue seems to be corrected.

I placed the FiveM executable into the proper installation directory, have updated it, and now it seems to run fine. Avast and its protection is up and running.

Hard to read, is it? Also, Avast has a bunch of separate ‘behavior shield’ options and similar.

Well, it is now. These issues appeared first for people during a point where no FiveM update was shipped for a month. All of these people used Avast. Take a guess what is to blame, then?

Thanks for the help guys. It turns out AVG somehow made it a virus so i had to make it exception for me to play it. I appreciate the help. I really do. The FiveM.exe was apparently some virus which i had to make it an exception.

Glad you got it working.

Just to clarify: FiveM.exe does NOT contain a virus! It’s a false positive where the anti-virus software list has listed FiveM as a potential threat. However, this is not the case, thus creating a false positive. It’s very common for .exe's and other filetypes like .rar
