FiveM ROS/MTL timeout — Rockstar Launcher signs in but launch never clears
Issue
FiveM will not launch successfully. It starts the Rockstar Games Launcher, successfully signs me into my Rockstar account, starts GTA V, and then gets stuck waiting for the ROS/MTL launch to clear.
The error eventually results in:
Timed out while waiting for the Rockstar Games Launcher (ROS/MTL)
The log repeatedly shows:
ROS/MTL still hasn't cleared launch
followed by:
Retrying ROS launch (attempt 2/3)
and then the same timeout occurs again.
GTA V itself launches perfectly normally through the Rockstar Games Launcher and I can enter Story Mode without any problems.
GTA V installation
I own GTA V directly through Rockstar Games Launcher.
My GTA V Legacy installation is on my D: drive:
D:\Rockstar Games\Grand Theft Auto V Legacy
The FiveM CitizenFX.ini correctly points to this location.
The GTA folder contains both:
GTA5.exe
and
PlayGTAV.exe
What I have already tried
I have worked through extensive troubleshooting:
- Restarted the PC.
- Confirmed GTA V launches normally into Story Mode.
- Confirmed Rockstar Games Launcher works and signs in normally.
- Verified GTA V files through Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Reinstalled Rockstar Games Launcher.
- Deleted/reset the Rockstar local profile.
- Cleared FiveM cache.
- Reset FiveM/Rockstar entitlement data.
- Deleted/reset
ros_profiles. - Reset the Rockstar Games user-data folder.
- Tested with Windows Defender.
- Checked Windows Defender Protection History — no FiveM/Rockstar block was found.
- Re-enabled Windows Firewall and confirmed it is enabled.
- Added FiveM/Rockstar to Windows Firewall.
- Updated NVIDIA graphics drivers to the latest version.
- Performed a Windows clean boot with third-party services/startup programs disabled.
- Confirmed Rockstar Games Library Service is running.
- Confirmed FiveM and Rockstar processes are NOT running elevated.
- Tested launching GTA V first and then starting FiveM.
- Confirmed FiveM still attempts the ROS/MTL process even when GTA V is already running.
- Checked the Windows
MachineGuid; it exists, is a normalREG_SZ, and has a valid GUID format. - Rewrote the existing MachineGuid without changing it to a new GUID.
- Confirmed the GTA installation path and executable files are correct.
- Confirmed the issue persists after all of the above.
Important information
The problem occurs before I can reach the FiveM server browser.
Rockstar authentication succeeds.
GTA V starts successfully.
The failure occurs specifically when FiveM is waiting for the ROS/MTL launch-clear signal.
Crash dump
I have attached my latest FiveM crash dump:
CfxCrashDump_2026_09_21_17_11_44.zip
I can provide additional logs if required.
Expected behaviour
FiveM should authenticate through Rockstar Games Launcher, complete the ROS/MTL handshake, and proceed to the FiveM server browser.
Actual behaviour
Rockstar Launcher signs in successfully and GTA V starts, but FiveM never receives the ROS/MTL launch-cleared signal.
It waits approximately 40 seconds, retries the ROS launch, waits again, retries, and eventually times out.
System information
Windows 11 64-bit
NVIDIA GPU with the latest NVIDIA driver installed.
Antivirus: Microsoft Defender only.
GTA V: Rockstar Games Launcher version.
FiveM: current standard release; my installation does not currently provide a Canary update-channel option.
Request
Could someone please inspect the attached crash dump/logs and determine why FiveM’s ROS/MTL handshake is not receiving the launch-clear signal?
At this point GTA V, Rockstar Games Launcher and the GTA installation itself all work normally outside FiveM, while the problem persists specifically within FiveM’s ROS/MTL launch process.

Additional comments
This is a Rockstar Games Launcher copy of GTA V installed on D:, not Steam or Epic. GTA V launches perfectly into Story Mode through Rockstar Launcher, but FiveM consistently fails at the ROS/MTL handshake.
PLEASE HELP BEFORE I EITHER LAUNCH MY PC OR BUY A NEW ONE!
