FiveM crashes when joining a server

asking for a friend, so fivem works for me but it doesnt work for him, everytime he joins a server the game freezes and then crashes, we both have gta v from steam

GTA V version? - ?
Up to date? - yes
Legit or Pirate copy? - Legit
Steam/CD/Social Club? - Steam
Windows version? - Windows 10

Maybe the server is trying to download stuff. I suggest leaving it frozen and going to make some coffee or some shit. Don’t alt-tab either.
