Cannot read property "appendChild" of null

Hello,

I’m trying to modify a menu that uses HTML. My goal is to have one button activate a javascript function that will loop through a table/array and create buttons in the existing menu based on the contents of the table. My current solution is to use a button that has “onclick = function();”. So far, that properly calls the function when I press the button. However, the javascript function can’t properly access the div that the previous button is in. I am using this:
var carInventoryElement = document.getElementById(“carInventory”);

However, this returns null. This is called after the “carInventory” div has been loaded on screen.
When using:
carInventoryElement.appendChild(btn);
I get the error: “Cannot read property “appendChild” of null”
If my explanation sucked and needs code or further words, let me know!

Problem solved: I assigned the div a class but not an ID… smh.
